Had a roast here one Sunday last year. For a start it was all contained in this huge yorkshire pudding. Everything was stone cold and we returned it to be warmed up. But nothing had changed. I won't be having another in there that's for sure.
The Barleycorn is OK when its quiet, but it is not the most spacious of pubs so I find it stressful rather than relaxing when it is busy. I go to the pub to relax, not to be jostled around in a crowd. Its even worse now that the Fountain has been demolished and the Barleycorn is the only watering hole in Hedge End village centre...
Lovely pub with a great crowd. The food isn't the most adventurous cuisine you'll ever stumble across, but it's well made and well presented. The staff are really enthusiastic about making you love this place and ensuring you have a good time. It's well worth a visit if you want a down to earth evening with friendly strangers!

Definitely would recommend this one; clearly a good locals pub in the evenings, it has decent food in the daytime. I had a burger when I went, very simple, but it was nicely prepared and actually tasted like meat unlike some of the meals that can come your way when eating out. The atmosphere was friendly, just how a pub should be, and a member of staff came over to check how the meal was. Everyone was very polite and I enjoyed my experience! If you are thinking of having lunch out one day, try this one.
