Had a birthday lunch there yesterday, ordered 10 meals, 8 were inedible, swimming in what could have been dishwater, raw chicken, half burnt half raw potatoes, soggy onion rings, soggy Yorkshires. Lamb Shanks and NO mint sauce! Got a full refund for the food, and plenty of excuses and NO apology from the manager. There should be an option to review without highlighting any stars, because it does not deserve one. As for the deserts in the above comment, they're frozen, available from any wholesaler, and take no skill to make, just like the prawn salad, well deserved of the 4 stars! NOT!

The Shamblehurst Barn in Old Shamblehurst Lane, Hedge End is a decent pub that serves up some tasty continental lagers as well as a couple of real ales and a good selection of wine. The main appeal is the fantastic setting which you can tell by the name is a beautiful old barn with real character. They also serve food, standard pub fare but tasty nevertheless.
This place really deserves a no star rating, I find the most enjoyable thing about the Barn is trying to guess how many people will complain about their food in the time it takes me to drink two pints.
The Shamblehurst is surely the worst pub in the area, poor quality food stacked high and microwaved, a disengaged staff interested only in gossiping to their buddies topped with a slighty menacing undercurrent to the general ambience.
Against my better judgement I went in last Friday evening ( two pints - two complaints) the place was not particularly busy but still there was a queue at the bar, it took my friend over 15 minutes to get served.
How the management get away with such poor service/attitude/vision/chips is beyond me, this large pub with great outdoor space should be haven for those of us living in Grange Park rather than the unwelcoming dump that it has become.
For a spur of the moment pub lunch I quite enjoyed my meal at the Shamblehurst Barn.
There is an outside patio/ garden area which is really useful, especially in the summer, but umbrellas too for the shade. As well as a selection of hot meals there are other options too. I had a prawn cocktail salad- prawns didn't have much taste but the sauce made up for it and the salad was definitely fresh. But I thought it was the amazing desserts that made the meal- not too expensive and a lot to them! Perhaps next time I might just try a couple of them! I had a Millionaire shortbread sundae which I would thoroughly reccommend provided you have enough space in your stomach!
