What does Emperor Ken do for us....?

I was impressed to see a Postman delivering to my front door this morning. I thought they'd given-up delivering on Saturdays.

But when retreiving my mail, I found it was this years Council-Tax demand. Boo, Hiss....!

As usual, they seem to be expecting an extra few quid every month for delivering less, with Hampshire County Council taking the lions share of my payments, nearly 10 times what Eastleigh Borough require and more than 12 times what Hedge End Town Council charge me.

So what exactly do I get from Hampshire County Council....?

The Library Service.

Gritting of some roads (but not mine) in the winter months.

Waste disposal sites, which are very selective about what they'll accept and what vehicle you arrive in: rubbish is rubbish whether they want it or not.

Royal Victoria Country Park, where the chapel has been an inaccessible eyesore for the last few years, due to scaffolding...

Now I'm stuck. I can't think of any other benefit that I'm getting for the £922.56 that Hampshire County Council want from me this year...

So I think it is time there were some substantial cuts at the very top of Hampshire County Council, not reducing the services (well, OK then, you can cut the Hampshire Safety Camera Partnership if you like), but giving the majority of the overpaid executives in Hampshire County Council the boot.

Only yesterday I was in conversation with a pal who was recounting how his old employer went down the tubes and folded. The remark that he made which caused me stop and think was that shortly before the firm folded he and his colleagues counted the number of "producers" and the number of "administrators". The ratio was approximately 1:1. No wonder the firm went bust.

And on yesterday evenings news, the talk was about the prospective strike at British Airways. The focus was on cabin crew, with an executive saying that the union was determined to ruin the company. Its funny, I thought, how the focus is on the cabin crew, i.e. the service providers, and there's no talk of the expensive overpaid executives being cut. They obviously intend to be safe and secure once all the mayhem is over...

We've really got to guard against this happening in the public sector, hence the need for cuts.

Emperor Ken, as he's been dubbed by the Daily Echo for his unelected and unaccountable Hampshire Senate, is costing us far too much...

The trouble is, how exactly do we get rid of all these unnecesary officials. Because they're largely in charge of their own destiny, they're not likely to sack themselves are they...?

We need our Politicians to sort things out, but they're  just as bad as the Executives...

Is there any hope...?
