Warm Front is a government funded scheme to help householders increase energy efficiency and cut energy bills, saving between £300 and £600 a year. Hedge End MP, Chris Huhne, reports that in his Eastleigh constituency 2,000 homes have benefitted from support from Warm Front.

Eligible householders – whether home-owners or renting from a private landlord – can receive financial help of up to £2,700 towards insulation and gas-heating costs, and up to £4,000 is available to meet oil bills for the elderly, people who are disabled and those on low incomes.

Chris Huhne: “As winter bears down hard, I am deeply concerned about those increasingly burdened by higher energy bills.

“Energy efficiency measures are vital to tackling climate change, but they also make a real and immediate difference to household income. I am determined that we should end fuel poverty in Eastleigh, and I welcome schemes such as Warm Front that contribute to this end.”

To see if you’re eligible for a grant from the Warm Front scheme, contact Anne Toms on anne.toms@eaga.com&gt or on 0191 247 3840, or visit the Warm Front website which also gives a freephone number to ring for information, 0800 316 2805.

The Warm Front scheme has given grants to two million householders. With a budget allocated for the year, the scheme is managed by eaga, the UK’s largest residential energy efficiency provider and a green support services and outsourcing company.

I've done all that. Energy bills are still expensive and I don't qualify for Warm-front grants, despite being on stupidly low income.

    What next...?

Overcome the problem once and for all, by sleeping on a park bench the next time minus 7 is forecast....?

Hampshire Trading Standards has some advice on simple ways to conserve energy, helping the environment and saving money.

Turn the heating down by one degree.

Don’t overfill the kettle with unwanted water.
Turn lights off in empty rooms.

And don’t leave electrical appliances on ‘stand-by’.
