Last Friday, 30 April, I emailed all seven Prospective Parliamentary Candidates standing in Eastleigh constituency and asked them their views on three issues it seems could have a major effect on the lives of people in Hedge End:  the Strategic Development Area proposal to build 6,000 houses just north of the town: drilling for oil in Hedge End; and overflow Rose Bowl cricket test match car-parking in Greta Park and/or Turnpike Way.

Conservative PPC Maria Hutchings has already replied – see ‘Conservative PPC Maria Hutchings on Greta Park Parking and Other Hedge End Issues’ – and now here are UKIP’s candidate, Ray Finch’s, responses:

“First the Strategic plan. If we were to leave the EU, remove all illegal immigrants (over 1 million) and have a 5 year moratorium on permanent immigration as UKIP intend, we will not have the pressure to build new homes and this problem will go away.

“The possibility of oil would hopefully bring jobs and prosperity to the borough and, as long as anybody directly affected was compensated properly and the area was restored after use, then I would be strongly in favour of it.

“The overflow idea is a terrible one and I would be very strongly against it. We have excellent public transport and a park and ride scheme would work for the odd occasions needed.”

If you’ve comments to make on any of the above points, post them now – or you can comment on any of the individual Hedgeendpeople stories on these issues: ‘Strategic Development Plan - PUSHing up (6000) houses’, ‘Hedge End’s Proposed 6000 House Development – Botley’s Study Highlights ‘Major Flaws’’, ‘Campaigners Against Strategic Development Plan Petition 10 Downing Street’;‘Is Dallas Coming to Hedge End?’; and ‘Test match parking proposal in Greta Park and Turnpike Way playing fields’, ‘Town Council Meeting Discussion about Rose Bowl Car-Parking at Hedge End Parks’, ‘Save Greta Park’, and ‘Chris Huhne on Greta Park’.

Or write your own story about your views on these or on any subjects that are important to you in Hedge End and will affect the way you vote on Thursday 6 May.

Yet another anonymous Conservative bringing this site into disrepute hiding behind the cloak of anonymity.

I thought the SDA was actually Gordon Brown's fault, like everything else...?

Ray Finch makes a couple of interesting comments though.

    1. “First the Strategic plan. If we were to leave the EU, remove all illegal immigrants (over 1 million) and have a 5 year moratorium on permanent immigration as UKIP intend, we will not have the pressure to build new homes and this problem will go away.

    2. “The possibility of oil would hopefully bring jobs and prosperity to the borough and, as long as anybody directly affected was compensated properly and the area was restored after use, then I would be strongly in favour of it.

I'm not sure we can blame the pressure for new houses in the South of England entirely on immigration. There's internal migration to think about too, people moving from North to South for instance, because there's supposedly more work down here (what a myth that is..!)

And If the oil field does eventually bring new jobs and prosperity to the borough, we'll still need the new houses, won't we...?

I've no idea what the solution to the housing problem is, unfortunately. I do however think we should cherish and preserve our green spaces a bit more than we currently do.

The SDA isn't the fault of europe its the fault of the lib dems.  Keith house allowed the site to go forward in 2005.  The lib dems try to blame the county council and chris huhne perpetuates it rather than take on his on council and defend the residents.
