Microclimate oddities...

7th March 2010, it is a glorious spring day and I've just managed to get the lawn-mower out for the first time. The south-facing front lawn looks better for being cut and because the front-garden looks better, I feel better.

The rear-garden is a different story. Although the Greenhouse now catches some early-morning sun and is starting to warm-up, large areas of the rear lawn are in the shade of the house and are effectively arctic permafrost. I'm half-expecting to find the remains of woolly mammoth when I dig holes to plant some dahlias in a few weeks time.

Its strange how the micro-climate can be so different within the space of a few dozen yards, on the same plot of land....
