On Wednesday 3 March, the Daily Echo reported on the pupils of Shamblehurst Primary School’s ‘Switch Off for One Hour’ campaign. It is one of the ideas the pupils have come up with to help promote a greener future. As well as encouraging the people of Hedge End to think about energy issues, the pupils have also been looking at their own carbon footprint and investigating ways for the school to save energy.

Yesterday, Saturday 6 March, the Hampshire Chronicle carried the story of post intended for households in Whitebeam Road Hedge End having been found dumped in a bin at Owslebury cricket ground.

The letters were stolen from a postman’s bicycle in Laburnum Road on Wednesday 17 February and discovered by Owslebury parish councillor Gerry Tull on Saturday 21 February, with many having been opened.

Cllr Tull reported the matter to the police who are now investigating. If you have any information about the theft you’re asked to ring Eastleigh police station on 08450 454545.

The Royal Mail says that the recovered letters will be delivered over the next few days along with a letter of explanation – but in the meantime if you’re a resident of Whitebeam Road and have any concerns you’re advised to call 08457 740740.
