It was exciting news on Tuesday 16 November with the announcement of the name of Hedge End’s new theatre. The Daily Echo reported that Hedge Ender Sheila Perry had suggested ‘The Berry Theatre’ to ensure future generations remembered Hedge End’s strawberry farming heritage.

The Berry Theatre in Wildern Lane is described as a ‘state-of-the-art theatre’, is costing several million pounds to build and will open in April 2011.

On Friday 19 November both the Daily Echo and the BBC had news that a resident of Hedge End was the driver involved in an accident in Chandler’s Ford in which a five-year-old girl had fallen from her scooter into the path of a bus in Knightwood Road the previous day.

The condition of the girl, who was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, was reported by the BBC to be improving on Saturday 20 November.

The 50-year-old bus driver from Hedge End was not injured in the incident.

The girl was with her mother at the time of the accident and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident which happened at about 3.20pm to contact Acting Sergeant David Dyer at Totton Roads Policing Unit, quoting Operation Tarlatan, on 101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
