Hedge End Allied Carpets Store Saved from Closure

Hedge End's Allied Carpets was one of 51 branches saved from closure when the Allied Carpets business went into administration.
The Hedge End store at the retail park on Wellington Park, along with the branch in Southampton Road, Fair Oak, has been bought by Allied Carpets Retail Limited, headed by Allied chief executive Clive Hutchings.
The deal, which also included the purchase of Allied Carpets' insurance inspection business, has saved 400 jobs.
The remaining 166 branches of Allied Carpets are in the hands of administrators, BDO Stop Hayward, with 1,100 employees under threat of losing their jobs, although it’s hoped that some of these stores will also be acquired by Allied Carpets Retail Limited.
The administrators have said that outstanding orders will be fulfilled and deposits protected, but advise that customers with any concerns should contact their local store.
With house-building at an 18-year low, 5% of homes put up for sale still unsold since the beginning of the year, the economic downturn generally has also affected sales with fewer people buying carpets and flooring.

Clive Hutchings went out of business then bought his business. It would have been more appropriate to use the money spent buying the business to save it. What a great game, one where people lose their homes and can't use the money that they didn't use well, or lost, to buy them. When you lose, wander off and let the next person up, that's a much better way.
