Hedge End’s Proposed 6000 House Development – Botley’s Study Highlights ‘Major Flaws’

Botley Parish Action Group (BPAG) has published a 63-page document highlighting what they see as ‘major flaws’ in the plan for the 6000 house development proposed for the outskirts of Hedge End.
The proposed development is part of the government’s South-East scheme to build a further 83,000 houses in Hampshire by 2026 and will include a school, shops, community and sport facilities, as well as creating jobs through industrial development.
There is, however, much opposition to the plan and the BPAG was formed to campaign against the scheme they say will ‘blight’ the local area.
The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) is at the moment undertaking a feasibility study but BPAG argue that this will report only on how the development can be built, and not look at whether it should be built.
The BPAG has therefore done its own study looking into how transport and traffic, water and sewerage, ecology, and agriculture will be affected by the development, as well as investigating the viability and sustainability of the planned community.
Hedge End’s MP, MP for Eastleigh Chris Huhne, also opposes the plan concerned about the effect such a large development will have on smaller villages and fearing chaos and congestion on the roads.
So what are your views here in Hedge End on the proposed development?
Take a look at the Hampshire Chronicle article and the BPAG study, and also the Hedgeendpeople stories from August, ‘Strategic Development Plan - PUSHing up (6000) houses’ and ‘Campaigners Against Strategic Development Plan Petition 10 Downing Street’ – and then share your opinions with Hedgeendpeople.
