Today, Tuesday 20 April, Eastleigh Borough Council announced the names of the prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) standing in the general election in Eastleigh constituency on Thursday 6 May.

There are now seven PPCs standing.

Leo Barraghclough is standing for Labour

Ray Finch for UKIP

Chris Huhne for the Liberal Democrats - and who has been MP here in Eastleigh constituency since May 2005

and Maria Hutchings for the Conservatives.

Tony Pewsey is to stand for The English Democrats following Malcolm Moore standing down as candidate earlier.

Added to these are:

Keith Low for the National Liberal Party

and Dave Stone as an indepdendent.

The result in the general election in 2005 was close here in Eastleigh with Chris Huhne’s 19,216 votes beating the Conservative Party’s Conor Burns by only 568. Labour polled 10,238 votes and UKIP 1,669.

This year Hustings.com – the ‘online platform to help voters find out about the election candidates and political parties that want their vote’ - gives Eastleigh as the Conservative’s target seat number 11 and Labour’s 93.

So however you vote, a vote here in Hedge End can really make a difference!

And if you currently have no idea of which party is for you, take a look at the ‘Vote Match’ poll. You'll be asked 30 questions – covering a number of subjects including troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, the NHS, climate change, the budget deficit, and electoral system – and Vote Match will tell you the party with the policies which most closely match the views indicated by your answers.

Good statement Tony. Thanks for taking the trouble to post it here.

I hope HedgeEndPeople will at least have a look at the English Democrats manifesto, maybe also check out some of the discussion on Social Networking sites...

Worzel, the English Democrats belief is "Not Left, Not Right, Just English" and if I ever encounter racism in the party, I will see it stamped out, or leave.
I believe in the right of the English people to have fair representation in Westminster, something that has been denied us for too long - our rights as one of the oldest democracies in the world have been eroded and respective governments have done absolutely nothing to stop that.  England is the only country in Europe without its own government.  The Scots have their Parliament, the Welsh and Northern Irish, their Assemblies, all other member-states have their own governments.  We, the English, have not.  The "racist" chant of the politically correct brigade has no basis in fact - we simply believe that immigration should be controlled to suit the needs of England, not the agendas of faceless politicians in Europe.  Why do "refugees" travel through any number of countries to reach us?  Because the other members of the EU don't want them and our government is too weak to stand up to the EU bully-boys, ergo, we are an easy touch.  England is the most densely populated country in Europe - twice as dense as Germany and FOUR times as densely populated as France.  Where do we draw the line?  Mr. Huhne believes that immigration should go unchecked, just so long as the immigrant population is directed to the less densely-populated areas!  If there's a gap, fill it!  Did anyone watch Panorama this week?  Expert opinion suggests that we will reach over 70 million population within 20 years!  Now there's a legacy to leave our children, over 1700 people per square mile.........how many new houses will that require?  How many English people are unable to afford to buy their first home because our seriously depleted affordable housing stock is given to immigrants, most of whom then sit back and take hand-outs, put more pressure on an already over-stretched National Health Service, welfare services and so on and so on.....all of which, we have paid for, still pay for, and they don't and won't.  Please do not confuse plain common sense with racism.  This is a multi-cultural society and we embrace that.  But we firmly believe that anyone wishing to come to live in our country should be economically self-sustaining and should not be a burden on the tax-payer.  Just as we would be if went to live in their country of origin.
The Manifesto of The English Democrats has remained unchanged for over 4 years, unlike the "big three", who seem to lock their advisors in a room in the run-up to the election and task them with dreaming up ideas that will win votes!  How many times have we seen election campaigns launched with manifestos full of wonderful ideas that not one of the main parties has ever mentioned before, or ever will again?
We advocate withdrawing from the EU and joining the European Free Trade Association.  This will save us a net £50 billion, which will be invested in this country, invested in Health, Education, Industry, Farming, Fisheries, Welfare, Law and Order.  The most important consideration here is referendum - we will actually ASK the people of England what they want!  Now there's a concept.......
If you're looking for truth, honesty and plain common sense, or you're simply fed up with the same old, mind-numbing drivel and nonsense spouted by the others; if you're fed up with having your intelligence insulted by cheats and frauds; if you, like me, are an ordinary man in the street who has simply had enough and is prepared to make a stand, then take a look at the Manifesto of The English Democrats.
I am proud to be English and to have signed the English Claim of Right.
Happy Saint Georges Day for 23rd April!

True avidreader, but I'm keen to see some independents in Westminster. To some extent it doesn't really matter what Dave Stone's views are, just that he's not attached to any of the main parties, not controlled by the party whips and can therefore speak freely and vote freely in the commons.

As you say, if there's any reliable indication of anything appalling I won't vote for him.
Hope he at least retains his deposit. If people are brave enough to put themselves forward, I don't like to see them lose £500...!

The English Democrats are the ones to be careful about here. The party name sounds very appealing, but they are right-wing. Some of their candidates (though not all of them) have even been accused of that notorius "R" word...
