Eastleigh Borough Council is running an online Public Open Space Satisfaction Survey to find out what people think about the number, quality and accessibility of open spaces within the borough.

They want residents to rate the facilities in their own particular town or village and the council says the results will help form future plans for the borough.

The survey asks for comments on open spaces, outdoor and indoor sports facilities, play areas and spaces for young people, allotments, green routes (including cycle-ways and bridle-paths), and landscape features.

There are also questions on the extent of any litter or graffiti issues, the quality of information and signage in the town and the degree of satisfaction with lighting and boundary markers (such as hedging and railings), among other topics addressed.

So if you think there aren’t enough play areas for young children, or that Hedge End could do with more sports fields or perhaps you have a problem with the town’s lighting or provision of litter bins – then now’s your chance to be heard.

There’s space to record reasons for opinions and it’s a reasonably lengthy survey, but worth doing if you value local facilities.

Whatever your views on Hedge End’s public open spaces and sports and play facilities let the council know – and don’t forget to share them with Hedgeendpeople too!

Personally I think there is a good choice of play equipment in Hedge End and one more site that would benefit from a play area is the recreation ground next to Baden Powell Lodge in Grange Road. There is a skate park here for the older children but nothing for the younger ones. The old trim trail that is there seems never used ans is a waste of space. The newly revamped play area in St Johns Road will mean that there is a wide area covered by good playgrounds thus giving parents the chance to avoid busy playgrounds and no doubt please local residents into the bargain.

I can't agree with charging for the paddling pool. As other parents will no doubt agree the effort made by the Council to keep it free is much appreciated as good facilities like this which are free are few and far between these days.

Personally, I think there's more than enough play equipment in Hedge End.

I also think the Council should charge to use the paddling pool. Hedge End residents can easily be issued with a pass of some description, but the outsiders from Weston/Woolston/Sholing/Bitterne etc really ought to pay to use the facilities instead of be subsidised by Hedge End Council taxpayers....
