Cubs Choose Brown Bread at Sainsbury’s Hedge End!

The 3rd Itchen North Cub group visited Sainsbury’s Hedge End last Wednesday evening to learn about healthy eating, diet and nutrition.
Jenni Upton, Akela for the group commented, ‘It is important that we are able to be involved with a store like Sainsbury’s Hedge End as the Cubs can learn so much to achieve their Fitness Challenge badge.’
As part of the requirements for obtaining their badge the Cubs have to learn about the need for a good balanced diet and fresh fruit and vegetables, and have to design a healthy lunchbox.
At Sainsbury’s the cubs took part in a bread tasting activity, trying six different types of bread from around the world, and then designed a sandwich and put together other contents to provide a balanced meal for a school lunchbox.
The bread tasting was a great success. Most of it was eaten with some favourites and surprisingly the brown bread came out on top!
Sainsbury’s PR Ambassador Lesley Powell said, ‘This is quite unusual for the brown breads to be a favourite but very pleasing to see them enjoying the taste.’
Hedge End’s Sainsbury’s has helped a number of groups from local Brownies, Beavers, and Cubs packs to participate in activities that go towards badge achievement. Activities around the environment, recycling, water conservation and healthy eating and fitness have all been taught and a group of Scouts also spent two days with Sainsbury’s PR Ambassador Lesley completing their PR badge.
The 3rd Itchen North Cub group is part of the 13th Itchen North Scout Group and meet at Baden Powell Lodge, off Woodhouse lane. For more information about the Cub or Scout group, see their website.

Hmm, brown bread was the favourite... that´s unusual, I seem to remember always preferring white! Good to see we´re getting healthier!
