Blood Donor Session in Hedge End Monday 8 February

The National Blood Service will be in Hedge End next Monday 8 February, at the Village Hall, St John’s Road, with sessions running 1.00-3.25pm and 4.30-6.15pm.
There’s no need to book, you can just turn up but if you’re unable to attend on Monday and would like to give blood you can book ahead for any of the next sessions scheduled for Hedge End:
Tuesday 6 April, at the Drummond Community Centre, Drummond Road 1.30-3.30pm and 4.30-7.00pm.
Monday 21 June at the Village Hall, St John’s Road, 1.00-3.25pm and 4.30-6.15pm.
Friday 6 August, at the Drummond Community Centre, Drummond Road 1.30-3.30pm and 4.30-7.00pm.
There are also sessions locally in West End, Botley, Bitterne and Fair Oak during the next few months – see the Blood Service website for details and to book an appointment.
The National Blood Service says that following the recent poor weather they need to rebuild stocks and are anxious for donors with O- and B- type blood to come forward as these stocks are particularly low – you can see a graph showing blood stock levels on their website.
It takes only a few minutes to give blood and so if you have a free half-hour on Monday afternoon and are aged between 17 and 65 why not see if you’re eligible to become a donor if you’re not already signed up.
The October blood donor session at Hedge End’s Village Hall saw the town beat its June total for the amount of donated blood – see Hedgeendpeople story, ‘Hedge End's October Blood Donors Beat June’s Total for Donated Blood’ – and so it would be good to see if we can do even better this time, particularly as due to the town’s commitment to date the Blood Service expects a good turnout from Hedge End.

According to Wikipedia tinyurl.com/6ehepo , the first successful transfusion of any description was in 1667, but this was experimental. The article claims that blood transfusion was first used as a medical process in early 19th Century France...

ReportI wonder when the first case of blood donating was? I seem to recall something about the Great War but I´m not sure. Anyone know?
