Work has begun on the old Courts furniture store building at Hedge End Retail Park, Charles Watts Way, and which will open as Best Buy in Spring 2010.

Banners at the site say to look at the Best Buy website for more information including details of job opportunities – currently, though, they seem only to be looking for department heads.

Best Buy states on its website that ‘Although we're the world's largest consumer electronics retailer you probably won't have heard of us.’

However, judging from the number of discussions, messages and tweets I’ve seen about Best Buy coming to Hedge End, and the apparent excitement(see previous Hedgeendpeople story), it seems lots of people know who they are.

But for those who don’t a potted summary follows: Best Buy is from the US, was founded in 1966 as ‘Sound of Music’, has grown to employ 150,000 people and to have 1,300 outlets in the US, Canada and China, and since 2008 has been in partnership with Carphone Warehouse.

Best Buy will begin trading on-line as well as opening stores in the UK in 2010 – and as one of those who hadn’t heard of Best Buy, can some of you who have please share what all the fuss is?
