Manor Farm Country Park is advertising a ‘week of half-term’ fun at their working yester-year farm Monday 15 to Friday 19 February from 10.00am daily.

At 10.30am there will be a chance to see the farm’s cows being milked and there’s an invitation to join the farmer on his daily tour of the farmyard at 11.30am.

At the ‘Meet the Animals’ session at 2.15pm visitors will be able to meet at close quarters the smaller animals in the farmyard and – just in case any are missing school! – children can go back in time and experience what school was like over a century ago at the farm’s Victorian schoolhouse at 11.00am and 3.00pm.

There will be a small charge for a drop-in arts and crafts activity taking place in the farmhouse (to cover the cost of materials), but otherwise entry to the farmyard events is covered within the normal farm admission charge.

Telephone Manor Farm Country Park on 01489 787055 or see their website for more information, .

On Tuesday 16 February 2.30-3.15pm Hedge End Library will play host to Burglar Bill. The Armchair Puppet Theatre will be presenting a version of Janet and Alan Ahlberg’s famous story – with lots of laughs promised. The cost is 50p and there are 20 places available – phone 01489 797142 to reserve a ticket.

[Other library users – please note the library will remain open for general use while the performance is on.]

The d@rt Centre at Wildern School has an activity-packed week on offer. The multi-arts day scheduled for Tuesday 16 February is now fully booked, but there is still the week-long Bugsy Malone theatre company experience, the themed activity week with dancing, drama, music and creative arts for 4-8 year-olds, and the two day  New York Food Fights creative cookery course for those aged 8 plus to choose from. See the d@rt Centre website for more information.

Manor Farm Country Park. One of my favourite places locally. Not just for the farm and the duckpond that is mentioned in the Domesday book. A Roman road runs through the site. There's the wreck of the Grace Dieu. Medieval timber-shipbuilding was carried out here. During WWII it was the site of HMS Cricket (landing craft training base) and one of the few places locally to be hit by a V1 flying bomb. After the war, Cricket camp was used to house people made homeless during raids on Southampton. So don't just look at the animals. Let your imagination recreate scenes from history and you'll find it's a fascinating place to visit...
