‘Tweet Tales’ is a competition launched by Hampshire County Council (HCC) to celebrate six months of tweeting by the council’s Culture-all Campaign.

Write a story in 140 characters or less on any theme and in any genre and you could win a £20 Waterstones voucher (this is 140 characters).
With two categories – one for over 16s and one for under 16s – entrants are asked to create a story using no more than 140 characters (including punctuation and spaces), the length of a Twitter tweet.
You can submit up to three entries, and write on any theme and in any genre from historical romance, to ghost story or spaghetti western – just remember the organisers are ‘sticklers for grammar’ and don’t like abbreviated language, unless it’s essential to the story.
Closing date is midday Friday 19 November after which a panel of judges will shortlist five tweet tales in each category. The final winners will be chosen by public voting on the website between midday Wednesday 24 November and midday Wednesday 8 December, with the results announced on Monday 13 December.
Entry is via the HCC website and the prize in each category a £20 Waterstones voucher.
Executive Member for Culture and Recreation Councillor Margaret Snaith-Tempia says (using slightly under 140 characters at 130), “People will really need to be creative with this one - with just 140 characters available you will need to make every space count.”
She adds (using a further 70 characters), “I would also like to thank Waterstones for supporting this competition.”
Culture-all is the council’s department for the promotion of cultural events, activities and facilities such as museums, parks, libraries, and discovery, arts and sports centres.
