Whether you’re a younger person or an adult, if you’re looking for ideas for getting out and getting involved in sport in the summer Hedge End’s Wildern Leisure Centre in Wildern Lane has some courses on offer as well as offering swimming and the fitness suite facilities.

Week-long or day courses for various age groups, ranging from 5+ to16 include crash courses in archery, swimming, trampolining and multi-sports activities. The Brazilian Soccer School and Saints Soccer School both run for a week.

The courses and activities are available from the week beginning Monday 26 July, and finish Friday 3 September – see the Wildern Leisure Centre website for full details of when each course runs and for age limit requirements (scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Summer Activities 2010 at Wildern Leisure Centre) or phone 01489 787128.

The centre is also offering training for the National Pool lifeguard qualification (NPLQ), the nationally recognised qualification for lifeguards. The training is available for those aged 16+ - again phone 01489 787128 for further information or visit the Wildern Leisure Centre website, (scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Summer Activities 2010 at Wildern Leisure Centre).

Eastleigh Borough Council is running Park Sport 2010 over the summer, Monday 26 July to Saturday 28 August, and which will take place at over 50 locations across Eastleigh Borough, providing free activities to enable 8-16-year-olds to ‘get outside and try something new’.

So you could try fishing, a lazer clay-shoot, street dance, tennis, cricket, basketball, football, volleyball – etc!

There are some girl-only sessions and these activities include cheerleading, circuits and dance.

Hedge End venues are Beattie Rise Rec, Greta Park, Norman Rodaway Sports Ground, Wildern School and Woodhouse Lane Rec – but to work out what’s going on where and when see the Eastleigh Borough Council website and download their programme.

If you are a sports club or facility in or near Hedge End or are running sporting activities over the summer and would like to invite children or adults to participate, add your details in as a comment to this story or post your own article on Hedgeendpeople.
