Argos catalogues can now be recycled in Hedge End
The new Argos catalogue has a ‘recycle’ logo and ‘PEFC’ logo on the back cover and carries the following information about the catalogue – that it is:
• 100% recyclable
• made from paper sourced from sustainably managed forests and controlled sources
• certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC)
• using paper mills which meet international environmental standards
Several paper mills receive damaged and waste catalogues from Argos including the UPM paper mill at Shotton, Deeside with the resulting pulp going towards making newsprint paper for national newspapers.
Argos sells general merchandise products for the home and launched in 1973 with 17 stores and a catalogue featuring 4,500 items. The catalogue is still central to its trading and now with 1,800 pages features more than 19,000 items and is issued twice a year.
With more than 36 million Argos catalogues in circulation each year, Argos says that 17 million households in the UK – roughly two-thirds of the population – have a current Argos catalogue at any one time.
So in all likelihood, approximately two-thirds of Hedge End homes will also have a catalogue in that case.
PEFC is the world's largest forest certification organisation, with PEFC UK Ltd established in 2000 as a member of the umbrella organisation PEFC International.
