Currentcost electricity monitors are currently available for loan free of charge from the library in Hedge End as part of an Eastleigh Borough Council initiative to encourage householders to become more energy efficient and to help them reduce the amount of money spent on bills in the home.

The council advises that the monitor is easy to use, clips on to the electricity mains cable and will tell you exactly how much electricity you’re using at any one time.
The scheme has been introduced by the council as a pilot to see whether the monitors really can help households become more energy aware and the Home Energy Conservation Officer at the council would like feedback on residents’ experiences using the meters.
You can pick up a monitor in the library – just ask at the desk – and you can also take home an energy check questionnaire which if you complete and return to the library will get you a free individually tailored report advising on how you can save on both heating and electricity usage.
Current Cost Ltd is a British company set up on the inspiration of electrical engineer Martin Dix in 2004 to enable householders to monitor their energy efficiency by using real-time information.
