Volunteers from the Hope and Aid Direct charity which provides aid to the people of Kosovo will be at Hedge End’s Sainsbury’s on 27, 28 and 29 August collecting food, household and toiletry items plus donations for this year’s October Winter Aid convoy.

This will be the third convoy the charity has made to Kosovo this year.

The message to shoppers at Sainsbury’s today (Friday 27th) and over the weekend is to buy an additional item when shopping to pop into the charity’s shopping trolleys.

Last year Hedge End shoppers contributed to a convoy load of over 95 tons of aid which went to help support 2,500 families in Kosovo in desperate need – see Hedgeendpeople stories, From The Shelves of Hedge End to the Tables of Kosovo and Hedge End’s Donated Goods Reach Kosovo which has photos of the aid being distributed.

This year donated items will be transported in a convoy of a team leaving the UK consisting of six 7.5 tonne lorries, one 18 tonne lorry and two 40 tonne lorries.

Twenty six volunteers, including five from this region, will accompany the donated goods and deliver the much needed aid directly into the hands of those in need in Kosovo.

Over the next three days Hope and Aid Direct will be handing out leaflets at the store detailing the type of items that can be collected with the list including pasta, baked beans, dried fruit, salt, sugar, cooking oil, pens and pencils, toothpaste, sanitary towels, nappies, matches and candles.

Hope and Aid Direct will also be collecting shoes in good condition, particularly men’s and children’s.

The charity says, “In previous years, generous customers have donated nearly a ton of items each day and we are extremely grateful for their support and hope to reach similar totals this year.

“We are very grateful to the Manager and Staff of Hedge End Sainsbury's and all the Centre staff who work hard to help us make a success of these three days.”

For more information about the Hope and Aid Direct charity see their website and you can follow the progress of the ‘convoyers’ on their journey on the website from 4 October.
