The charity was nominated by Sainsbury’s Hedge End and supports young people who have autism, Asperger syndrome, or are anxious or socially vulnerable, helping them to develop their self-confidence, self-esteem and coping skills.
The 'In Touch Project' comes under the umbrella of several groups (Hampshire County Council, Children’s Fund, and The Bridge Education Centre) and is based in Eastleigh, operating as a small group focusing on supporting 15-20 young people whose needs are often overlooked.
They meet twice a week and engage in fun activities to help them cope with everyday life, such as doing sport and other outdoor activities, learning to cook and taking part in healthy lifestyle quizzes.
Last week Sainsbury’s handed over a cheque to the project for £500 which included donations from the Alice and Alfie and The Magic Windmill book sales, plus additional funds from Sainsbury’s.
The book tells the story of two rag-dolls and their adventures in a windmill in France and Loykey and Lillybit will be selling Alice and Alfie and The Magic Windmill at the entrance to the Hedge End store until the end of July, price £14.99
Sainsbury’s will be continuing to support the ‘In Touch Project’ Youth Group throughout the coming year, raising more funds and helping with resources to support them in the future.
