I've been rather disappointed with what's been recorded about Hedge End's history so far. There's been a couple of good local books by local authors, but generally speaking Hedge End doesn't feature much in the wider annals of history. It's a bit like tracing your family tree when nobody has thought to write anything down previously. Its all a bit of a mystery...
So this group is an attempt to rectify that.
Do please write about things that happen in Hedge End on a day to day basis, but please please please do not write from the promotional/marketing point of view please! There are plenty of other groups on this website for that sort of thing. What I'm really hoping for are some stories on what actually happened at those events.
And it doesn't have to be modern events. If you can remember what happened years ago, write about it here. It alll has a value for future generations and we've all got a responsibility to record it.
Alll you have to do is click on the "Write" tab above and type away to create your story, as I have done, but please make sure you're posting to this specific group. "Life in Hedge End"...!
Thanks for your help and your participation....
OK folks. I've well and truly set the ball rolling by writing a number of stories aimed at this particular group. Hope you enjoy reading them and draw some inspiration from them. I'll add some more when I remember them or as and when they arise, but I don't want to do this all myself. I hope you will help build this archive of stories about "Life in Hedge End" by writing some yourself. As you see, they can be about more or less anything as it will all have great value in 100 years time. I'll forgive our ancestors for leaving Hedge Ends history rather sparse, as they didn't have this sort of technology to help them, but there's no excuse for us not to write things down. So its over to you now and thanks...!
Does your interest in history only cover Hedge End and its past or have you been researching your family tree? If you have and have unearthed an interesting story, don't forget Hampshire County Council is running a Family History competition - it's a 1000 word limit, and your story be submitted online or in the post. It would be great to have a winner from Hedge End!

Funnily enough, I have been exploring my family tree this year and confirmed some old family tales that link me to JMW Turner no less. Nothing really relates to Hedge End though, so I've not written about it here - yet...!
I'll have a look at the HCC website. Thanks Caroline...
