    Why is it that we seem to be getting such a severe winter with lots of snow and sub-zero temperatures, especially in Scotland, and yet we are told there is global warming? It seems a contradiction to me.

    Good question delilahc. If you follow this story there now seem to be some reports of global cooling, i.e. the earth hasn't really warmed as expected over the last ten years. So who knows what the truth is, if studies contradict each other and scientists can't agree...

    As for our climate, our weather is milder than is usual at this latitude because of the effects of the Jet Stream and the Gulf Stream. If they start behaving differently (for whatever reason), it is quite conceivable that our climate could become colder and wetter...
