Well, I'm finally at home during daylight hours and have a chance to clear the remaining snow and ice off my driveway, the pavement and the road outside my frontage. Its coming up really easily at the moment, so isn't particularly hard work. What's disappointing though, is that none of the other able-bodied blokes in my cul-de-sac had the balls to come out and join in. Had they done so, we'd probably have had the whole cul-de-sac clear inside an hour and we'd be able to drive up and down a normal road again rather than on a sheet of glass. Would be helpful if the Town Council could find a way of encouraging this sort of activity somehow, perhaps by issuing us with half a dozen snow-shovels or selling them at cost price or less. That might be the little spark that is needed to get this sort of activity going this winter. Six able-died blokes (with understanding bosses) spending an hour clearing the worst of the snow that had fallen on Thursday morning, before we attempted to go into work, would have greatly reduced the problem we've all had getting up and down this cul-de-sac. So if the Borough concentrates on the main routes, the Town Councils role perhaps is to facilitate and encourage this sort of thing. I don't think the Community spirit is quite strong enough round here yet, for it to happen on its own...!
