I'm amazed to be reading this evening http://tinyurl.com/4ymbcc4 that most of the seats in Hedge End Town Council that are theoretically up for re-election on May 5th aren't being contested, because nobody can be bothered to stand against the Lib Dems. Not even the Conservatives. Not even me (yes I know, and I agree!). That means we don't get the chance to vote for the Town Councillors this year, they are elected by default. I guess we deserve all we get over the next year or so.

Now I think we need to put this right next time. Part of the problem I suspect is inertia. We need to be more on the ball about when nominations have to be submitted and much more organised about finding a proposer, a seconder and 8 other signatories who are on the electoral register in the wards where we wish to stand.

I'm easily contactable via my blog http://tinyurl.com/3uz5utf if anybody wants to join forces and take this forward.

For the Town Council, you only need two signatories. It's ten for the Borough.

Didn't know that Keith. Perhaps that's part of the problem. Many people locally not really knowing what is involved and finding the idea so daunting that they don't get off the starting blocks...
