Unbelievably a bank can be turned into a betting shop or pawnbroker without planning permission or community say so. And the government is looking at making this kind of development even easier.
Living Streets, the national charity that stands up for pedestrians, believes everybody should have a say when buildings get turned into something new. We want your help keep essential shops and services within walking distance.
Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities, is now reviewing the planning rules for when buildings change their use. Without immediate public support the shops and services that you walk to in your neighbourhood may be at risk.
Please take a few moments to join other Living Streets supporters and support our campaign. Don't let your high streets get taken over by cheque-cashing shops, fast-food takeaways and betting shops.

Lloyds Bank in Hedge End has already been turned into a charity shop, judging by the secondhand books that are on sale in there. I know they've been bailed out, have got a few debts to pay off and are trying to keep more capital, but really...! Why can't Lloyds concentrate on doing Banking correctly and let Hedge Ends many Charity shops sell secondhand books...?

There could be even worse in store for the Norman Rodaway. Please check out my blog where I connect some recent decisions made by our local Lib Dem councillors which point to a future where at least there will be no more model aircraft, and no more football, and no more dog walking etc....
