The aims of hedge laying are: to make a boundary for live-stock; to rejuvenate the hedge; and to improve the overall quality of the hedgerow. The activity on 12 November is run by BTCV (the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers), and is suitable for those aged 16 and over – BTCV remind that if you’re under 18 you will need parental consent to join in. Participants are advised to wear suitable outdoor clothes and footwear – boots, long sleeves, trousers and waterproofs (if light rain is forecast) are recommended. BTCV say they will not work in prolonged or heavy rain conditions.
