Proposed development at the Rose Bowl is in the news again – and although the Rose Bowl isn’t in Hedge End (despite the Portsmouth News reporting that it is) plans for the cricket venue have been of particular interest here recently due to the overflow car-parking proposal which would see Greta Park and/or Turnpike Way recreation ground used for car-parking at test matches. This item concerns the building of a hotel on the site. Local hoteliers had opposed the proposal but their application for a review of the plan has now been withdrawn. http://tinyurl.com/24odgj6

The Rose bowl is an excellent addition for Eastleigh. They have to show that they have reasonable car parking to ensure that they qualify for test status matches so the issues with Great Park and Turnpike Way are temporary. With the Rose Bowl, Best Buy and the 6,000 house SDA Eastleigh is becoming the model that many local authorities wish to emulate.

I am more concerned about the proposal to move large quantities of earth from the Rose Bowl development to the Botley Park Golf Course for the purposes of 'Bunding'. This will affect some people in the Maddoxford Lane area of Boorley Green and, if wet when the exercise takes place, will cause a hazard on the road leading up to and into the Golf Course. I would like to know what the plans are for this earth-moving event and precisely where the 'bunding' will occur on the Golf Course. I believe that the Leader of the Hampshire County Council, Ken Thornber, has already looked at the proposed site and declared that is an entirely inappropriate for this earth to be dumped there.
