Northern Petroleum is planning to drill for oil in hedge End, says the Daily Echo: tinyurl.com/nuakfb
Yeah, just up the road from the crematorium so if the dead start walking the whole place might burn. Don't worry about any noise, because despite the costs of developing and prospecting the site, the pumps will only run for one hour each day. Chemicals will be released into the air that smell and there'll be an increase in the quantity of harmful contaminants present in the air around the site. The town will begin to attract a new populace with certain attitudes and the pubs will do well. You'll see very expensive black cars and foreign men.
Although I'm happy for the pubs, it seems that they will be the only establishments that do well from this. Certainly the residents won't. It doesn't appear to be a very well thought through plan.
