According to the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) the level of crime in Hedge End is ranked ‘average’ when compared with the level of crime in other areas across Hampshire.

CrimeMapper is a website developed to allow the general public in England and Wales to check on local crime and antisocial behaviour levels across a range of crime-types for their own neighbourhood and to compare levels to other localities.

The crime rate for a given area is defined as the number of crimes per 1,000 people in the area, calculated by dividing the actual number of crimes by the population figure and multiplying by 1,000.

There are five crime rate levels – low (bottom 2% of areas), below average (next 14% of areas), average (middle 68%), above average (next 14% of areas) and high (top 2%).

Areas surrounding Hedge End are pretty much in the average band, although to the north of the town there’s a patch and in Southampton a spread of above average crime levels and a pocket of high at South Stoneham and in the centre of Southampton.

Locks Heath and the Tichborne area are star performers with below average crime levels.

But although the level of crime in Hedge End falls into the ‘average’ category the average number of crimes has increased compared with the same three month period last year – from 86.3 to 99. The average number of incidents of burglary has risen from 7.7 to 12.3, of vehicle crime from 8.7 to 11 and anti-social behaviour from 65.7 to 69.3.

The average number of robberies hasn’t changed at 1 and the number of violent crimes has decreased from 21.3 to 18.7.

All the above crime types are ranked average for comparison purposes with other Hampshire aeras.

You can also use the website to access details of the local neighbourhood policing team, policing priorities and information on the policing pledge.

The National Policing Improvement Agency is a policing organisation acting as a central resource to the police service, working for ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers), APA (Association of Police Authorities) and the Home Office to improve the delivery of policing.
