Police are warning women and girls to be vigilant following an incident where a man exposed himself to a teenage girl in Hedge End.

The incident occurred between 8am and 8.15am on Tuesday, September 14 while the 14-year-old girl was walking to a friend’s house along a footpath running between Welstead Way and Maunsell Way.

She spotted the man ahead of her in bushes and as she got near to him he called out to her and indecently exposed himself. The girl ignored him and ran off.

PC Sarah Gulliver said: “Although no attempt was made to touch the girl, it was a frightening experience for her. We would like to warn other females in the area to be vigilant at all times and not to walk alone unless it’s unavoidable. If they do have to walk alone, we would advise them to stay away from quiet or isolated areas.”

The offender is described as white, aged 20-22 years, clean-shaven and of medium build and as having short dark hair with tramlines on the side and wearing a dark t-shirt and dark trousers.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who the man is, is asked to contact Hedge End police station on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
