Two garages were burgled during the night in the Cranbourne Park area of Hedge End last week, one on Sunday 12 September and the second at some time early morning on Monday 13 September.

Following these incidents the police are urging residents to ensure their garages are securely locked.

A brand new Flymo electric lawn mower and a brand new Flymo electric garden strimmer were taken from one garage, both still in their unopened boxes, and   four 100 metre drums of Co-axial cable valued at £45 each plus two 100 metre drums of twin-earth electrical cable worth £60 each were stolen from the other.

PC Gerren Potter who is investigating the burglaries said: "Although dwelling burglaries are rare, local residents can always do more to secure their property and in particular garages which can often be a target for opportunist thieves. Just the addition of bolts and padlocks can deter criminals who look for a quick and easy opportunity.”

Additional advice on crime prevention can be obtained from Eastleigh Crime Prevention Officer Barbara Clayton on 023 8068 8360.

The police ask anyone in the area of Cranbourne Park early on Tuesday morning or with  information about those responsible for the burglaries to phone PC Potter at Eastleigh police station on 101 or to contact the charity Crimestoppers (anonymously) on 0800 555 111.
