Hedge End's Heritage sign

I have just published an article about Hedge Ends new "Heritage sign" at Hedge-ends-heritage-eyesore
-
Unsightly backside
-
More attractive from the front
Installed only this week, the new sign looks OK from the front.
Well maybe that's a matter of opinion, but can anyone reasonably claim it is attractive when viewed from behind...?
Then there is the really big question, about whether we should be spending money on signs like this at a time like this, when belts have to be tightened and cuts to services are necessary...

My initial thoughts when I saw this new Sign, was that it was part of the Christmas decorations, and only temporary, red and green I thought holly and berries, and on further inspection (with glasses on) I now see it's strawberries. And says Hedge End and not Merry Christmas!
I have to agree with TGR it's a bit heath Robinson, and definitely not worth a Blue Peter badge!!
If it had been mounted as it was deigned, on a little wall painted cream (Strawberries & Cream) I think it would have had more impact.
To weld it to a bit of box section metal post painted green does the village no favours at all.
It needs to visible and seen when entering the village, so its position is good, it just needs a little cream wall.
