A new discussion group, known as the the Hedge End Society, is about to hold its inaugural meeting. Anybody who lives in Hedge End is welcome to attend.

The idea is to provide an opportunity for Hedge End residents to debate local issues in a relaxed, unintimidating, non-political environment with the minimum of formalities.

The difficulty with Council meetings is that they are chaired by local Councillors, who are sometimes more interested in stifling debate and getting their business done, than listening carefully to the general public and acting upon what is said to them.

The Hedge End Society is intended to be new and different. It gives you an opportunity to say what you think, without any of the pressures or procedural mechanisms that might prevent your point of view being heard in a Council meeting.

But it is not just a talking shop. Hedge End Indpendents will certainly be there, listening carefully to what is said. The debate will inform us and shape what we say to the Council in future.

And as the meeting is open to everybody who lives in Hedge End, it is possible that Local Councillors and candidates from other parties might choose to attend. That is encouraged and welcomed, but for the Hedge End Society to work it is important to keep the meetings free of party-politicking and campaigning. The politicians role here is to listen...!

With that in mind, arrangements have been made for the inaugural meeting to be chaired by Chris Rowberry, Vicar of St Johns Church in Hedge End.

That meeting will take place on Monday 14th NOVEMBER at 7.30pm in the UNDERHILL CENTRE, ST JOHN'S CHURCH, ST JOHN'S ROAD, HEDGE  END
