Hedge End Carnival 2011

Hedge End Carnival was very well supported this year, with plenty of floats, all of the local Carnival Queens and Princesses, some fascinating vintage transport, colourful drummers and dancers, some scarecrows blowing their own trumpets (no not including me..!) local drama groups promoting forthcoming shows and some really imaginative costumes..

The Shamblehurst Barn must have spent a fortune on balloons as I could hardly see the truck underneath them all and full-marks to whoever was wearing that Hungry Horse costume on a really hot day in July. I  reckon he would need a drink when he was finished....!

Best of all though, was that there was a really good crowd using every possible vantage point along the route.

I include some of my favourite photo's from the afternoon. Thanks to everybody who so willingly posed for them...!

The carnival was well supported this year and was brilliant. Huge congratulations to Maraca Jacks for winning the best overall float and best in their category too. All the hard work paid off! Also well done to all the other entiries who won or took part. You all looked great. One down side though was the huge delays we faced on the way round. We were stopped along Sherbourne Way and Hobb Lane for a long time and I heard this was down to the roads not being closed promptly. This was a shame as quite a few people were leaving and going home because they had had enough of waiting by the time we got to Lower Northam Road. It took nearly two hours to get round a route, because of all the stop/starting, that should only have taken an hour. I suggest that next year the police get more involved in shutting off the roads at the right time so the carnival can pass through swiftly and easily and cause less disruption to life in Hedge End for the people that don't want to go to the carnival and make it more enjoyable for those that make the effort to turn out and watch it. That would make it even more of a fantastic event than it already is and help it last for at least another 90 years.

How lovely beccyc25. Not surprised they were tired. It's a long walk for little legs. They both did very well. Yes of course I will babyxbri. Would appreciate my name being credited alongside the photo, but you're most welcome to use it on the Shamblehurst Barn's Facebook page. Mailing it now. TGR
