Both of our Children attend Botley C of E Primary School, and we think it's a fantastic School, and so do our Kids! Interestingly Liberal Democrat Councillor Rupert Kyrle believes that the numbers are dropping and that it's in danger of closing down, according to the letter he has distributed to local residents.

This week we received a letter from the Headteacher in response to worried Parents, it was all sparked off due to the Massive Housing plans for Borley Green and the proposed Botley by-pass. Rupert Kyrle has made claims that the numbers at the School are in decline and that the School is in danger of closing! The letter our Daughter brought home from School states that in fact the numbers are rising, 253 last year and 279 this year, plus the School is turning people away and they have a waiting list, there is NO threat of closure and if anything the School needs to expand.

The Headteacher goes on to say that she is dismayed that at no point was the School contacted to verify the claims, which seem to have been made for a very political purpose!

Hi Keith, I'm Confused now that indeed you say that you are! The headteacher has reassured us that there is NO threat of closure, quite the opposite!

With regards to voting against the local plan, only Rupert can answer that, but I would suggest that maybe he is appealing to the voters or he is genuinely opposed to the development plan.

Whichever, the school is safe for many years to come!!

I'm confused now. If Botley school is in danger of closing without thousands of new houses being built at Boorley Green, why did Cllr Kyrle vote against the draft local plan on Thursday? Does he want the school to close?
